Longer stays or alternative accommodation

If you would like to stay longer than one week in the region, (and we recommend you do!) we can arrange alternative accommodation in Roses and the surrounding area; we especially recommend Costa Brava Flat or Brava Properties Direct.

Alternatively, if you would like to do the course but would prefer to stay in a self catering apartment, please let us know and we can work something out for you.

Physical fitness

Stone carving is hard work, but how hard depends on the size of the piece and the type of stone. If you would like to carve but are not very strong we can provide a soft soap stone and make it a small piece. I prefer to work standing up but you don’t have to, some of my older students do sit to work and manage fine.

However having said that remember that some days you will be working for 6 to 8 hours and you must be able to swing a small hammer for that long or you may feel you haven’t achieved much by the end of the week.

Also this is a dusty art and people with breathing problems need to be aware of this, and although masks will be provided, it can get hot wearing them and people often prefer to work without.
